Question: Why do ice cube floats on water?
Answer : Unlike most substances , solid structure(or phase) of water is less dense than its liquid phase. As the water gets colder and the kinetic energy of the molecules decreases, the hydrogen bonds keep the water molecules apart, forming hexagonal structures with water molecules at each vertex. Crystals holding lots of spaces between molecules at fairly fixed distance among water molecules in ice cube less dense than the liquid water.
